We spend an average of about 40-48 hours a week in our workplaces. We are exposed to various emissions from building interiors which we are oblivious to. We are constantly breathing in ozone emitted from printer and photocopier fumes, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and exposed to biological pollutants from poorly maintained HVAC systems (air-conditioning).
Continuous exposure affects health over time. This is commonly observed in absenteeism due to respiratory problems, flu and the common cold. The situation is worsened during breakout of epidemics such as H1N1, SARS, etc.
